Roll Call

John Beranek, Carla Beranek, Bill Bradley, Bill Hare, Lewis Jones Jr., Worth McGuire, Mike Moody, Jack Noe, Harvey Poynter, John Poynter, Michael Weaver

John Beranek called the meeting to order.  A motion to dismiss with the reading of the minutes got a second and passed.  John asked about the Jamboree.  Bill Bradley reported that it went well.  He said that a speaker discussed the U.S.B.C. merger.  Bill also told the board our association would need to host and pay for a hospitality room for 60-75 people for the first Saturday night of the tournament.  Bill Hare said Galaxy would provide the room at no cost to the association.  Mike Moody told the board Bowling Green lost $1,700 at last years state tournament.  The board discussed getting sponsors to help pay the expenses of the tournament.  Pepsi and Coke were mentioned as possible sponsors.  Michael Weaver told the board that our association would get $.85 (85 cents) a bowler from the expense fee.  Bill said Lexington’s bowling association offered to help with the tournament if we need them.  Carla Beranek said she talked to some members of the Madison County Women’s Association and said that there was a lot of interest in helping with the tournament.  Carla told the board she’d be checking with league bowlers to see if anyone would be interested in working the tournament.  John Beranek told the board that we needed to inspect the lanes in the next two weeks.  The board set the lane inspection for Maroon Lanes on Thursday August 5 at 6:30 PM and Galaxy Center on Sunday August 8 at 9:00 AM.  The board then discussed selling towels, shirts and hats at the state tournament.  Carla made a motion to only sell towels and John Poynter seconded the motion and the motion passed.  Spider suggested we hold a singles or doubles tournament a month before the state tournament.  The board discussed the idea; Harvey Poynter said he would work on some rules for the tournament.  Carla suggested the local houses could offer discounts to the state tournament bowlers.  The members discussed prize money and possibly holding the pre-state tournament in the first week of October.  Bill Bradley said he might need a state tournament assistant director if Spider couldn’t work the tournament.  John Beranek said he would help Bill if he were needed.  John Beranek suggested that Maroon Lanes and Galaxy Center might want to run a tournament on the Friday before the state tournament starts.  John asked Harvey Poynter about the program book.  Harvey said he would start working on the book closer to the tournament.  The board voted to hold the association meetings every two weeks until the state tournament.  Bill Bradley said the K.S.B.A.’s Hall Of Fame plaque would be left with our association for the next year.  He suggested the plaque be displayed at Maroon Lanes for the first six months since Roger Childress (the only person from our association on the plaque) bowled there and Galaxy Center the last six months.  Bill said we could use the presentation of the plaque to Maroon Lanes as the kick off of the state tournament and have the Richmond Register come out.  The board talked about possibly merging with the women’s association and said we could discuss more later after the state tournament.  The board set the next meeting for Aug. 17, 2004 at Maroon Lanes.  The meeting will start at 7:00 PM.
